Winter break is for family, fun, and food—lots of food.

But keeping up with your fitness goals doesn’t have to feel like work! Here are 7 easy and enjoyable ways to stay active while embracing all the holiday vibes.

1. Make Snow Your Playground

Turn your snow day into a workout! Sledding, snowball fights, and shoveling are sneaky ways to torch calories. No snow? Hit up a roller rink, ice skating rink, or trampoline park for indoor winter fun.

2. Dance It Out

Nothing lifts holiday spirits like a dance party. Put on your favorite playlist (hello, Taylor Swift and Mariah Carey) and get grooving. Bonus points if you turn it into a TikTok challenge with friends or family.

3. Try Quick Workouts Anywhere

Don’t have an hour? No problem. A 15-minute HIIT or yoga session does the trick. Check out virtual classes from UB Recreation to stay connected even when you’re off campus.

4. Walk It Off

Shopping for gifts or checking out holiday lights? Turn it into a walking workout. Park farther away, take the long route, or challenge yourself to hit a step goal while soaking in the festive atmosphere.

5. Active Family Time = Memories + Movement

Suggest a post-dinner walk, ice skating trip, or even a push-up contest. It’s a fun way to bond and sneak in some exercise.

6. Hydrate and Balance

Stay hydrated with a cute water bottle by your side. When it comes to meals, start your day with a nutritious breakfast and embrace balance—enjoy the cookies and add some greens to your plate.

7. Set a Holiday Fitness Challenge

Start a mini goal for yourself—like mastering a yoga pose or running a mile—before the new year. Or, challenge your friends to a fun fitness competition. Winner gets bragging rights (and maybe coffee when you’re back on campus).

Fitness over winter break doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s all about moving in ways that feel good and embracing the joy of the season. How do you stay active over the holidays? Tag us @UBRecreation and share your tips!
