UB is once again the No. 1 public university in New York State and a top 40 public university in the nation, according to the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings released yesterday.

The 2022 ranking includes nearly 800 universities.

UB is rated No. 31 among public universities in the United States, while retaining its position as the No. 1 public university in New York State. UB ranks 124th among all public and private universities nationally.

The WSJ/THE rankings are based on 15 key indicators that assess colleges and universities in four pillars:

  • Student outcomes (40%), including graduates’ salaries and debt.
  • Academic resources (30%), including how much the college spends on teaching.
  • Student engagement (20%), including whether students feel prepared to use their education in the real world.
  • Learning environment (10%), including the diversity of the student body and academic staff.

The rankings include the results of the THE U.S. Student Survey, which examines a range of key issues including students’ engagement with their studies, their interaction with their teachers and their satisfaction with their experience.

The full methodology is explained in greater detail on the Times Higher Education rankings website.
