It is with sadness that we share the news that our colleague Sarah Piraino passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, after a long illness with Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy, believed to have been caused in part by her long time battle against Lupus. Sarah was surrounded by family, including her two 12 year old children, Anthony and Adriana.

Those of you who knew Sarah as PSS Secretary, as a dedicated member of the PSS Inclusion and Diversity Committee, or from her work since 2005 as a counselor in the Educational Opportunity Program, know that she was kind, passionate, and always willing to go above and beyond to help make each of our days better. She was a well loved friend and colleague, and she will be missed.

Sarah was a member of the Undergraduate Advisement Council and two-time chair of the WNY Advising Conference. WNY Advising will be hosting a basket giveaway at their annual conference to benefit the new Sarah Piraino Scholarship, which will support graduate students wishing to attend the conference in her honor.

Friends and family will gather Friday, September 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Old Time Baptist Church, 5599 Camp Road in Hamburg that will include a one hour viewing and a memorial service immediately to follow.

Donations will continue to be accepted on GoGundMe <https://www.gofundme.com/sarahs-fight-for-time> and directly to the family to cover all of Sarah’s medical/funeral expenses and ongoing childcare expenses.
