We recognize the great work that the employees of the University at Buffalo Police Department have performed during the fourth quarter of 2017.
While this is an award for the 4 quarter, this is really for all of the great work and support Technical Specialist Daryl Kempf and Senior Staff Associate Scott Wallace have performed so admirably all year! Scott and Daryl are always available 24/7 whenever they are needed for problems in dispatch, issues with alarms, radios, computers, assistance is required for cameras by Investigations or just about any other issue when you do not know who to call.
Their technical support throughout the year and the placement of cameras in several high profile incidents has closed several cases for us many ending in arrest.
Their technical assistance was instrumental in the following incidents:
· The arson arrest in Spaulding that involved multiple arsons
· Crowd Control monitoring at various events
· The investigation of possible burglaries in campus buildings
· Surveillance of the area where the victim of off-campus domestic violence was being stalked by her abuser.
Daryl and Scott have come in at a moment’s notice and at all hours of the day and night to assist when needed. I am certain there is not a member of UPD they have not had to assist in some fashion.
For their unparalleled attention to duty, and just being generally all around nice guys it is my distinct pleasure to recognize Daryl Kempf and Scott Wallace as our employees of the quarter.
At the end of the semester we had a string of 6-Arsons in Spaulding Residence Halls at all hours of night and early morning. These were causing extreme disruption to students studying for final exams and causing evacuations. Ultimately, with the assistance of the above mentioned cameras and the investigation by officers and dispatch we were able to make an arrest in this dangerous incident.
Officer Fisher when above and beyond in his assistance to a homeless student veteran. For his compassion and assistance to this student Officer Fisher is awarded Honorable Mention.
All three did a great job in their individual roles that ultimately ended up in arresting a suspect for Public Lewdness of a youth in Alumni Arena. This crime caused a great deal of concern in our community and the quick action and work by all involved caused this to come to a satisfactory conclusion.
