As reported by UB Now, The Buffalo News, Buffalo Business First, and others, the upstate New York region that stretches between Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse will receive $40 million in federal funding to boost the American microchip industry. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the funding as part of the CHIPS and Science Act, which is expected to transform the regional economy, create jobs, and establish the I-90 corridor as America's semiconductor superhighway.
The successful bid, one of only 12 chosen, was due to the region's existing microchip industry and collaborative efforts between the three cities. The University at Buffalo, will lead the proposed Supply Chain Activation Network (SCAN) project, helping chipmakers and suppliers find financing to figure out how their products would fit into the constantly changing semiconductor industry.
