Buffalo Business First reports on four examples of innovations in health care being developed in Western New York, including a method for freeze-drying formulas for vaccines being developed by a UB research team led by Jonathan Lovell, biomedical engineering researcher, professor and co-founder of POP Biotechnologies.
As reported, the technology could help vaccines — for HIV, cancer, malaria, COVID-19 and more — become easier to store and distribute. POP Biotechnologies has licensed the vaccine delivery methods and partners with a Korean company on clincial trials for a COVID-19 vaccine.
The company is exploring additional collaborations with commerical partners and for other diseases, as well as its own lead candidate vaccine.
