Vicora hopes to shake up the $10 billion annual market for vascular intervention and help supercharge a business ecosystem for medical device innovation in Buffalo.
Buffalo-based Egret Healthcare Ventures invests in medical technologies and now has three companies in its portfolio, all of whom are also supported by UB Business and Entrepreneur Partnerships: Vicora, Ampullae and The Rookery Labs, the last of which serves as a business incubator that provides the facilities, expertise and services that early-stage companies need to progress to clinical use.
Vicora spent over a year in the Jacobs Institute’s Idea to Reality Center doing initial design work, received $300,000 from UB BEP’s Center for Advanced Technology in Big Data and Health Sciences (UB CAT) and also formed an active clinical advisory team that includes physicians from UBMD and Gates Vascular Institute.
