Cichocki recognized for excellence in teaching

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dianna Cichocki, clinical assistant professor of management science and systems in the University at Buffalo School of Management, has been honored with the Arjang A. Assad Excellence in Teaching Award.

Established with a personal endowment from Assad, former dean of the UB School of Management, the award recognizes the contributions of outstanding faculty members. Based on recommendations from the school’s teaching effectiveness committee, the award is presented biennially to a School of Management faculty member who has demonstrated teaching excellence, leadership and a passion for the profession.

“Dianna consistently shows exceptional commitment to student learning and success, and is most deserving of this honor,” says Paul Tesluk, dean of the School of Management, who announced the news during a virtual town hall meeting on April 17. “I think I speak for our entire School of Management community when I say: Thank you, Dianna, for all you do for our students and school.”

A School of Management faculty member since 2011, Cichocki teaches courses in statistics, analytics and data modeling for undergraduate, Professional MBA and Executive MBA students. She also serves as faculty advisor to UB DECA and an instructor for the school’s Introduction to Data Modeling Using Excel non-credit-bearing certificate program.

In addition, Cichocki has led workshops and presented at the local, state and national levels on incorporating technology into statistics and best practices in data visualization.

Cichocki has previously been honored for professional and teaching excellence with awards from New York State United Teachers and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, as well as the UB Undergraduate Student Association, the School of Management Alumni Association and the school’s Undergraduate Management Association.
