Tradition of Conversation

UB is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and safe environment for our students, faculty, staff, alumni and other campus visitors. It is who we are at UB; it is how we identify as a campus community. These core values motivate us to cultivate a living and learning community where all feel safe, respected and valued.

Here are some examples of our university’s tradition and commitment to free speech:

History

UB's protection and right of freedom of expression have been core values at the university for decades.

Speakers

Speaker programs at UB include internationally renowned scientists, authors, media experts and other luminaries—all of whom continue to bring thousands of people to UB each year.

Difficult Conversations

Difficult Conversations, or "DIFCON", is a platform that allows students, faculty and staff at UB to come together to address issues of critical importance to our community, and explore our different viewpoints. The following webpages captures UB's efforts to lean into discomfort and create a culture of dialogue through videos and information related to DIFCON events.
