Medical alarm masking
Matthew Bolton can speak to members of the media about medical alarm masking; that is when medical alarms sound simultaneously, making one or more of them inaudible. The phenomenon can make it difficult for caregivers to differentiate alarms, including those that signal life-threatening emergencies.
Bolton has developed a computer-based tool that uses the same principles as MP3 audio files, with the goal of helping reduce preventable deaths associated with these auditory blindspots.
