Calls for Papers

NeMLA Italian Studies is published once a year in the fall and may have in some cases a monographic nature. For each monographic issue, the topic will be announced well ahead of time, during the NeMLA conference of the year prior to publication and through the NeMLA Italian section listserv. Calls for papers will be publicized during the annual NeMLA convention.

Formatting Guidelines

Submissions must conform to the MLA Handbook (see Purdue OWL's MLA Formatting and Style Guide for an illustration). Please use the language in which you write most idiomatically and effectively.

  • Submissions should be set in 12-point Times font, single-spaced. 
  • Formatting should be kept at a minimum. 
  • Do not use any tabs to indent. 
  • Do not insert any additional spacing between paragraphs. 
  • Never use underlining. Always use italics. 
  • Notes and works cited should appear at the end of the text. 
  • Submissions to the reviews section do not need a works cited list. 

How to Submit

Please submit your contribution as an email attachment (Microsoft Word). All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter/message that includes the author’s relevant affiliations, a U.S. or international postal address, and email address.

Book Reviews

Books for review and book reviews should be submitted electronically to Daniela Antonucci or mailed to the below physical address:

Conditions of Publication

Manuscripts submitted to the journal should not have been published and should not be simultaneously submitted or published elsewhere.

NeMLA membership is not required to submit to NeMLA Italian Studies; however, membership is required for publication.
