Combining Structural Optimization and Structural Control

Abstract: A critical-mode control algorithm is derived based on the instantaneous closed-loop technique. The spillover effect is studied theoretically and numerically. The algorithm is then used to establish optimal locations for a limited number of active tendon controllers. Three approaches of using the modal shapes, the performance index of control energy, and the performance index of response are studied for determining the optimal locations.
