Dr. Markus Ettl is a Senior Manager in the Business Solutions and Mathematical Sciences Department at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, Germany. He subsequently joined IBM at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center, where he has worked on operations management for adaptive enterprises, supply chain logistics, inventory management, revenue management, and dynamic pricing. He received several IBM Outstanding Achievement Awards for his work. He is a past winner of the INFORMS Franz Edelman Award. He is an IBM Distinguished Researcher, IBM Master Inventor, and Member of the IBM Academy of Technology.
Abstract: As companies seek to leverage the growing amount of information available to them they also need to address uncertainty, both from a data management as well as an optimization perspective. In this talk, we will present examples of business analytics projects in different industries, including retail, electronics and travel, and highlight the technical and management challenges in developing and delivering a solution.
