What mentoring means to me:

I would not have made it through my graduate program if not for a few important mentors that helped me understand the expectations of academia, taught me the nuance of specific theoretical perspectives and helped me navigate the world of higher-ed administration that I now work in. As someone who is multiracial, I think it is also really important to have access to BIPOC mentors, particularly in a predominantly white institution. My academic path has also led me to social justice initiatives in the city of Buffalo, particularly focused on racial justice and food/ecological justice, and I would hope to provide mentorship about this field also since I never had guidance in the area of social justice as a graduate student.

Topics I am willing to discuss with students:

Academic Culture

  • Considering a non-academic path after grad school.
  • Decoding and demystifying academic culture and norms.
  • Taking a non-traditional path to grad school.
  • Uncertainty about staying in grad school.

Other Topics

  • Would love to talk to students interested in social justice, especially racial justice as well as food/ecological justice

Personal Experiences

  • Caregiving for children.
  • Experiences related to racial, ethnic, cultural and/or religious minority status.
