What mentoring means to me:

I view mentoring as a means to inspire those who seek to excel in their lives, whether it be professional or personal. Early in my career, I noticed that my engineering classes had more female students than usual, and that is when I realized these women sought a role model. It was then that I recognized a new role that I could fulfill in academia, and have made it a priority to mentor anyone who seeks guidance, support, advice and shared experiences. I am very proud that my research teams over the years have been diverse ethnically, composed of men and women who have graduated and are very successful in their careers. Through mentorship, I hope to help individuals build self-confidence, set goals, define a path for their education and how it can shape their future and have pride in what they accomplish.

Topics I am willing to discuss with students:

Academic Culture

  • Considering a non-academic path after grad school.
  • Decoding and demystifying academic culture and norms.
  • Uncertainty about staying in grad school.

Personal Experiences

  • Experiences related to being a woman.
