The Community for Global Health Equity aims to provide opportunities for students from across the University to travel and contribute to global health research and knowledge. International field work awards cover up to $2,500 or the cost of travel and per-diem.
Application: Eligible candidates are all UB students. Prior international experience is not a prerequisite for application. Preference is for proposed projects in collaboration with the global work of a faculty member.
Application to the program will be competitive and will be based on the submission of a scope of work, letter of interest and letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
A scope of work, or a description of your project, should include your project’s rationale, objectives, and anticipated deliverables. The scope of work should be one to two pages in length or a 500-800 word count.
The personal statement should address the applicant’s interest in global health, his/her interest in a field experience or a Buffalo-based experience, prior experience in travel or work outside the United States if relevant, and future career goals. The personal statement should be no longer than one page in length or 300-500 word count.
The letter of recommendation should be written by the faculty member who will supervise the student during the experience. The letter should include the following information: the duration and capacity in which the student is known to the faculty member, a description of the student’s diligence, work ethic, and intellectual curiosity; and an assessment of how well the student will function in an international setting, if applicable. The faculty member should indicate that s/he has reviewed the scope of work and is in agreement with its contents.
Award: International field work awards cover up to $2,500 or the cost of travel and per-diem. Various steps to the international field work process may take several months to complete.
