This fund was named for the founding chair of the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior, and former dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions, Dr. Lynn T. Kozlowski. Dr. Kozlowski’s longstanding impact on our University at Buffalo community through education, leadership, mentorship, and research advances in the field of public health will forever be remembered as we continue to support student academic success through this named fund. The fund provides resources for the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior.

The School of Public Health and Health Professions Student Diversity Fund offers critical financial support for students who will contribute to the diversity of the student body at the school.

Established in 1990 by Dr. J. Warren Perry and Dr. Charles D. Perry, this fund supports an annual scholarship for the benefit of upperclassmen or graduate students pursuing a degree program in the School of Public Health and Health Professions (formerly the School of Health Related Professions).

Given by the chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, the fund supports research activities that are conducted as part of a doctoral dissertation. Specifically, it includes a cash award to a graduating student for the best dissertation, and a research award given to a student to further their doctoral research.

The Dr. Richard N. Schmidt Scholarship Fund recognizes Dr. Schmidt’s service to the University at Buffalo and the field of statistics, as well as his vital role in ensuring the ongoing success of the Department of Biostatistics and its students.

Scholarships can make an extraordinary difference for students in need — including those who are the first in their families to attend college. This fund supports scholarships for students in the Department of Rehabilitation Science—part of the School of Public Health and Health Professions. 

The friends and family of Kathleen M. Shaffer established this fund in 2008 to honor her passion and skill. The fund supports an annual award to a fifth-year student who has displayed academic and clinical excellence and promise in the field of occupational therapy within the School of Public Health and Health Professions.

This fund supports the Epidemiology and Environmental Health Department within UB’s School of Public Health and Health Professions. Here, we focus on understanding the determinants and prevention of disease, the role of environmental factors in health and disease, and how the administration of health programs can help implement this understanding.

Emergencies involve circumstances which are beyond the student’s control, including a death in the family, accident, loss of property, loss of income or unanticipated educational expenses. These funds offer temporary one-time financial assistance for immediate and current emergency situations.

Students in the Department of Rehabilitation Science receive support through this fund.

UB’s School of Public Health and Health Professions is one of only a handful of schools across the country that includes health-related professions as an integral component of the public health educational and research system.

A prolific and accomplished scholar, administrator, author and lecturer, J. Warren Perry was founding dean of the University at Buffalo School of Health Related Professions (now the School of Public Health and Health Professions). He established this fund, along with his brother Dr. Charles D. Perry, to support an annual lecture at the school. The presenter of the lecture is typically someone of national stature and/or distinction in at least one significant area of interest to the allied health professions.

Scholarships provide transformative opportunities for students in the exercise science program in the Department of Excercise and Nutrition Sciences — part of the School of Public Health and Health Professions. For underserved students (including those who are the first in their families to attend college), scholarships can be the deciding factor in choosing to attend UB, or being able to earn their degree.
