SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence (CASE)

This award requires university nomination or interview and cannot be applied to directly. Students must work with the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships and meet university deadlines.

Overview

The SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence acknowledges students for outstanding achievements that have demonstrated the integration of SUNY excellence within many aspects of their lives such as academics, leadership, campus involvement, community service, or the arts. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the University.

The General Award recognizes students who have demonstrated the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, campus involvement, community service and/or creative and performing arts. Students are asked to provide descriptions/summaries of their awards, honors, accomplishments and/or achievements in at least three of the primary areas.  

The Special Award recognizes students who have demonstrated accomplishments in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion; military; overcoming the odds. Applicants should provide specifics such as accomplishments, honors or achievements, type and description of awards received, organizational involvement and service dates.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have a GPA of 3.5 and above
  • Be a current or recent undergraduate or graduate student
  • Have graduated or plan to graduate between June 2023 and May 2024 (for the 2023 application)

How to Apply

Applications are now closed. The 2023 application will open on September 15.

Students must complete the online self-nomination and submit a current resume/CV. Students can apply for the General Award and/or the Special Award.

The nominations will be forwarded to an internal campus nomination selection committee which can recommend up to 15 candidates to SUNY for consideration. Campuses can only nominate one student for a special award. All applicants will be notified by the end of January as to whether they have been recommended as a campus nominee for this SUNY award. Campus nominees’ application materials will be forwarded to SUNY for consideration. UB-recommended nominees will be notified directly by SUNY of their award status, and will be recognized at a ceremony in Albany in April if selected by SUNY as a recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
