James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program

This award requires university nomination or interview and cannot be applied to directly. Students must work with the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships and meet university deadlines.

Overview

Each year, through the James C. Gaither Junior Fellows program, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace offers approximately 15 one-year fellowships to uniquely qualified graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. They are selected from a pool of nominees nominated by several hundred participating universities and colleges. James C. Gaither Junior

Fellows work as research assistants to Carnegie’s senior scholars. Positions are paid, full-time positions for 10-12 months. The anticipated salary is $4,000.00 per month before taxes, paid semi-monthly. A full benefits package is also provided. Junior Fellows also receive relocation support of up to $1,500.

Deadline

  • Campus Deadline: Jan. 10
  • External Deadline: Jan. 15
    • The deadline shifts to Friday if the 15th falls on a Saturday and Monday if the 15th falls on a Sunday

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a graduating senior or alum who has graduated within the past academic year and has not yet started graduate studies.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States for a full 12 months.
  • Have significant coursework and internships related to discipline of interest.
  • Demonstrate superior research and writing abilities.

Students interested in being nominated by the University at Buffalo must first contact the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships to request application forms and information.

Selection Process

Students who complete all application materials will be considered for nomination as a Gaither Fellow. A committee will select UB’s nominees.
