Central Sterilization Technician (CST)

The Central Sterilization Technician program is designed to provide classroom instruction to a non-experienced student in the competencies required to obtain employment as a Certified Central Sterilization Technician. The program will address various topics related to the cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient equipment.

New York State Requirements:
  • State of New York Bill 878-A requires healthcare professionals who successfully passed a Nationally Accredited Central Sterilization examination for Central Sterilization Technician to maintain credentialing.
  • State and local healthcare agencies shall not employ or contract for services unless the employee is certified.
  • State and local healthcare facilities must provide evidence that a person employed is certified and maintained the required continual education credit on an annual basis.
  • Central Sterilization Technician must complete classroom and on hand experience prior to sitting for the certification examination.
