The emerging Financial Technology (FinTech) industry—one of the leading start-up sectors—offers many opportunities for students to enhance their employability and improve their career mobility. At UB, students can choose multiple ways to gain new skills, expand their networks, and learn about entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship in FinTech.
During this virtual week-long event, student teams from UB and other institutions learn about entrepreneurship through action-learning experiences. This program, led by Blackstone Launchpad, includes daily discussions and presentations, opportunities to immediately apply this knowledge, mentoring and coaching from industry experts, and a final pitch presentation.
This 7-week competition lets students work independently and in teams to solve a challenge the FinTech industry is facing. The winners of the competition unlock a spot at an exclusive invite-only meetup with recruiters. FinTech Switch was created collaboratively by UB’s Career Design Center with industry experts including M&T Bank and NOTA, coaches through Blackstone Launchpad & Techstars, and faculty from throughout the university.
The FinTech E-Clinic matches multidisciplinary, diverse student teams with real-world projects in order to build commercialization capabilities for students and FinTech organizations. The clinic helps fill a gap between the rapidly developing FinTech ecosystem in Western New York, our campus entrepreneurial ecosystem, and the broader community that is not fully connected to growing FinTech opportunities. UB’s School of Management and School of Engineering and Applied Sciences lead this program.
UB’s FinTech programs are presented in partnership with the Career Design Center, School of Management, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, UB Libraries, and the Office of Business and Entrepreneur Partnerships powered by the UB Innovation Hub.
