Help us create a nutrition and carb counting guidebook for Uganda and other African populations that will increase the Arican Diabetes Alliance's impact exponentially and be a stepping stone to improving people's health, quality of life and productivity.
Non communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, coronary vascular disease and cancer are costing families in Africa millions and crippling economies of billions of dollars, yet 80% of these cases are largely preventable through positive lifestyle change. If left unchallenged, they affect people and start a cascade of body system failures that can cause a very low quality of life and eventually death. Poverty, low literacy levels and lack of knowledge of healthy lifestyle habits are big contributors to this problem and create a vicious cycle that drains and drags families to death and abject poverty.
Africa Diabetes Alliance (ADA) has been on a journey teaching and educating people living with PLWNCDs how simple, positive impactful lifestyle changes can help them regain their health, strength and quality of life thus taking back control of their lives and thereby disarming diabetes and other NCDs. This in turn supports healthy people and a productive economy.
ADA invites UB students to help us change lives through this important initiative.
Students will help us develop and publish a nutrition and carb counting guidebook to be distributed throughout Uganda and Africa.
We are looking for students to participate in all aspects of the project including content writing, design and layout, social media, and book sales.
All ideas and skillsets are welcome.
