Project description

Design and construct a gantry crane with three degrees of freedom to permit testing of advanced control algorithms for motion control. Crane loads are prone to oscillations and can lead to an unsafe work environment. It also reduces the productivity since the load motion has be be damped out before they can be placed in their final position. Automating the process of point-to-point motion can improve safety and increase productivity.

Project outcome

  • Gantry crane which can move payloads over a workspace of 1x1x2 meters.
  • Experience programming Arduino hardware for motion control of stepper motors.
  • Implementing control algorithms to automate the process of point-to-point motion of loads.
