We invite students to develop their soft skills through exploring leaders and industries of interest, and contributing to the development of a digital soft skills catalog.
Many are concerned that recent graduates are missing important soft skills that are critical to current workforce needs and emerging markets. Employers have identified non-technical skills such as leadership, problem solving, communication, collaboration, as well as social and interpersonal competencies that are particularly critical yet lacking.
For students pursuing jobs, both outside and inside the university, the pressure to develop their soft skills while completing degree requirements and expectations can seem overwhelming and confusing. And for employers, who look to colleges and universities to cultivate these skills, the perceived deficiencies remain frustrating and problematic.
We invite UB students of all majors and backgrounds to cultivate their soft skills through working to identify professionals in their fields of interest (historical or present) who exemplify these qualities, gaining insights related to strategies, lessons learned, and resources, as well as areas for growth and development, contributing to a digital catalog that can be used by UB students toward developing their professional capacity and success.
