Seeking students to aid in publishing materials about the history of the Political Science department at UB.
The Department of Political Science came into being fall 1963, after the private University of Buffalo merged into the SUNY system. In its over 50-year history, the Department and UB experienced major changes. The number of faculty members of the Department oscillated between three and over thirty. Despite renown for individual members, the overall patterns of Political Science history; e.g. curriculum change, involvement with other parts of UB and non-University entities, results of major grants; merit wider knowledge.
Having joined the University at Buffalo faculty in 1964 and having filled some major administrative positions as well as academic ranks, I enjoy a unique perspective on the history of the Department. I have already published several sections about this. Two chapters remain to be written, which I wish to complete in the 2019-2020 academic year, with the help of a student assistant.
The person[s] selected for this opportunity must meet at least biweekly with Professor Welch and submit brief reports about progress made prior to each session. Applicants must submit their CV, names of two references (preferably from UB), and their unofficial transcripts.
Completion of the Department's history, including electronic publication of at least two chapters. Other chapters have already become available, at https://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/political-science/about/political-science-ub/our-history.html.
