How much and how fast will the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets contribute to future sea level?
The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are the largest potential contributor to future sea-level, but knowing how the ice sheet will change and how much sea level we need to prepare and adapt for requires a coordinated effort between ice sheet models and climate model projections. The Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project for CMIP7 (ISMIP7) is an international effort lead at UB.
This ELN project will help the experimental design of ISMIP7 by collecting and analyzing potential climate models and future emission simulations datasets that can be used to drive ice sheet models. The work will also entail dataset preparation such as changing grid resolution.
The project outcomes will be a series of data products that will in turn be used by the international ice sheet modeling community for making sea level projections of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.
The specific outcomes of this project will be identified by the faculty mentor at the beginning of your collaboration.
