Since 2005 ANEHOP has been supporting communities through social innovation, sustainability, and economic empowerment. Seeking students to help steward the next phase of its evolution.
The Africa New Hope Project (ANEHOP) is a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence since 2005. It was founded by William A. Twayigize with other young Africans who were university students in Kenya. Some of those students were from Southern Sudan, DR Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Kenya. Together they started the African Youth Voice for Peace (AYOVOP-AFRIQUE). The mission was to use their voice as African youth to champion for holistic peace that addressed issues that were affecting African communities across the region. Together they promoted good governance, servant leadership, community development, gender equality, and right to healthcare.
When William Twayigize moved to the United States for his graduate studies, he met other like-minded people from across the world who were focused in sustainable development and wanted to support his mission and expand AYOVOP-AFRIQUE programs to include effective community-based natural resources management in Africa. This new vision was to include natural resources management as the root cause of conflicts and slow development. It is at this time that AYOVOP-AFRIQUE changed its mission and became The African Natural Resources Effective Management Institute (AMREMI-AFRICA).
At this time, ANREMI expanded its activities into DR Congo where it supported sustainable development of the palm oil sector in Kamanda, Ituli region. In 2013, ANREMI provided two modern mini oil mills equipped to produce quality red palm oil. We also trained local women on how to make beauty products from the palm oil, which increased their financial income. We also provided solar panels and economic stoves to women groups in Monduli, Tanzania, Kajiado and Turkana, Kenya, Rakai, Mubende, and Karamoja in Uganda. We have also been involved in Chamas (table banking) systems in East Africa to promote financial inclusion among urban refugee women and rural groups. We basically focused on environmental sustainability and UNMDGs.
In 2015, ANREMI expanded its programming to include women’s healthcare, Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Female Sanitary Pad and Hygiene Services, Community Clean Water Provision Services, Rural Sustainable Renewable Energy Program, Community Table Banking & Financial Literacy Services and Educational Equity and School Feeding Services. The new programming is based on the African Philosophy of “Ubuntu”, which means that a person is a person through other people or I am because you are. After we changed our vision and mission ANREMI became ANEHOP and we continue to focus on building a socioeconomically empowered society where all humans have opportunities to utilize their potential to thrive and contribute to the society.

Plans for a new school with a focus on experiential learning and social innovation are underway. Leaders of ANEHOP are seeking the creative contributions of UB students across a broad range of topics and areas of focus including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), computer applications, and women's health. Please submit a letter of introduction and motivation if you are interested.
The specific outcomes of this project will be identified by the faculty mentor at the beginning of your collaboration.

Note that global partners rely on the contributions associated with ELN student projects and commit their limited time and resources to working with students. Accordingly, different projects will require varying amounts of time and strong commitment and follow through.
