CEPAD - Culturally Competent Educational Program for Black Older Adults at Risk of Dementia

CEPAD: Culturally Competent Educational Program for Black Older Adults at Risk of Dementia Weiss Lab.

What is brain health? How can someone know if they are aging well or if they have a higher risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD)? This project clarifies these questions, particularly to the Black community, and empowers them to advocate for themselves and their loved ones.

Project description

This project aims to promote health literacy, increase participation in research, support Black older adults struggling with ADRD, and address the lack of culturally competent educational content for Black individuals at risk for ADRD.

Project outcome

  • Primary: Identify knowledge, concerns, and beliefs about ADRD among Black older adults.
  • Secondary: Develop and evaluate a culturally sensitive educational program to inform Black older adults about ADRD.
