The list of studies seeking participants at the University at Buffalo keeps growing, and the UB Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is committed to sharing those research opportunities with the community. Here, you will find information on two studies looking for healthy volunteers.

In addition to the studies below, check out the University at Buffalo’s Participate in Research portal for current studies in our area focusing on a variety of topics that might be of interest to you, your family and friends.

Two noteworthy studies currently seeking participants:

WALKING ANALYSIS STUDY

Researchers in UB’s Department of Rehabilitation Science are seeking to determine a standard for how healthy people walk, in order to better help patients who have difficulty walking.

This study will last for one hour and participants may be required to change into comfortable clothing. As part of the study, participants will have small stickers (or electrodes) placed on their legs and will be asked to complete a series of simple movements. The electrodes will monitor how their muscles work as they move. The study will take place at UB’s South Campus. A parking pass and testing clothing will be provided if desired.

Eligibility

  • Healthy adults ages 20-80
  • English speaking
  • Able to walk without assistance

UB TREAD STUDY: TRACKING FOOD, EXERCISE, AND DECISION-MAKING IN PEOPLE WITH PRE-DIABETES

Researchers in UB’s Department of Pediatrics are seeking to enroll adults who have not been diagnosed with diabetes. The purpose of the study is to look at decision-making and how it relates to food, exercise, and blood sugar levels.

This study will last two weeks and requires participants to attend three sessions. The first session will run for about two hours, with the following sessions lasting around 30 minutes. In the first session, participants will give themselves a small finger-prick blood sample, measure their weight, complete some surveys and questionnaires, and be fitted with a small device that will monitor their blood sugar for the next two weeks. They will also be asked to record daily food and drink intake for the next two weeks. After one week, the second visit will include measuring their weight and downloading the data from the blood sugar monitor. After the second week, they will return to the lab for their third and final visit for researchers to measure their weight and download the data from the devices. The study will take place at UB’s South Campus.

Eligibility

  • Adults 18-plus
  • Normal glucose levels or a diagnosis of prediabetes
