This workshop introduces participants to social science terms that every health practitioner should know and explains those factors contributing to health disparities and inequities between Whites and people of color. There is a significant association between health outcomes, undesirable neighborhood conditions, and social and economic determinants. This realization makes it vital that health practitioners know the social science terminology required to understand the socioeconomic, behavioral, cultural, and neighborhood dynamics affecting people of color. These terms are necessary concepts to learn, categorize, remember, infer, explain, problem-solve, generalize, and think about these challenges. Concurrently, the workshop will help participants understand the social and economic factors that contribute to race-based health disparities.
