News and Updates

For all the latest news and updates, consult UB's COVID-19 site.

  • UB’s plans for the spring semester were announced yesterday in a university-wide email from President Tripathi and Provost Weber. Building upon lessons learned and successes from the fall, operations will largely stay the same, with modified in-person instruction, significant reduction of on-campus density and a continuation of the surveillance testing program. In addition, there will be a precautionary quarantine requirement and a COVID-19 testing requirement for most students returning to campus, in line with systemwide mandates announced by SUNY.

  • UB Forward schedule.

This is the final UB Forward issue of 2020. The newsletter will be on hiatus over the winter break, resuming weekly deployment on Jan. 8, 2021. All of us at UB Forward wish you a safe and healthy holiday season.

Resources for Faculty and Staff

    • DHC guidelines. All UB faculty, staff and volunteers who work on campus are required to complete the Daily Health Check on the days they report to a UB or UBMD facility. Those who plan to be on campus for winter session or the spring semester must complete the DHC daily for two weeks prior to their return.
    • New UB Learns option. Starting with spring 2021 courses, faculty will have a choice between two different course views in UB Learns: Original and Ultra. The UB Learns support team will hold Zoom sessions for faculty and instructional support staff outlining the advantages and some of the challenges of the new course view.
    • Lessons Learned. The Center for Educational Innovation presents a half-day conference to help faculty explore how they can move past the challenges of bringing innovative theory to practice in online and hybrid teaching environments.

Resources for Students

    • DHC guidelines. Students who live on campus, visit campus on any given day or reside in Erie or Niagara counties must complete the Daily Health Check throughout winter session and the spring semester. Those who plan to return to in-person learning or campus housing for winter session or the spring semester must complete the DHC daily for two weeks prior to their return.
    • UBThisWinter. It’s not too late to enroll for winter session. Classes run Jan. 4-22, and registration is open now. Please note: Some undergraduate, graduate and professional students are required to be tested prior to returning to campus in January. UB will provide testing for those students not able to obtain testing on their own prior to returning to campus.
    • Spring registration underway. Students are reminded to finalize spring course enrollment now in the HUB Student Center. Registration information is available on the registrar’s website.
    • Important dates. The spring 2021 academic calendar has been updated in compliance with SUNY spring reopening guidelines. Classes will begin on Feb. 1. Dates may differ for professional school programs.
