News and Updates

For all the latest news and updates, consult UB's COVID-19 site.

  • Earlier this week, much of Erie County was designated an “orange” COVID-19 cluster zone by the state. While the university will offer in-person instruction until Nov. 24 as planned, on-campus gatherings are now limited to 10 people, in-person student clubs and activities are suspended, and campus dining and food service operations are offering takeout service only. Athletics activities for fall sports will continue as scheduled.

  • In consultation with the Erie County health department, SUNY and the New York State Department of Health, UB will continue in-person classes as scheduled until Tuesday, Nov. 24. Thanksgiving recess takes place from Wednesday, Nov. 25, to Saturday, Nov. 28. After the break, UB transitions to fully remote instruction, with the exception of certain clinical, laboratory and other activities. The fall semester concludes Dec. 21.

  • UB experts remind students, faculty and staff that a negative COVID-19 test result is not a guarantee that a person is not or will not become infectious. The entire UB community is urged to avoid or minimize gatherings and to follow all health and safety recommendations. Downloadable digital signage is available to help spread this message on campus.

  • Holiday hiatus

UB Forward will take a break next week, resuming Friday, Dec. 4.

Resources for Faculty and Staff

    • Remote teaching technology. UBIT will hold several virtual Q&A sessions for faculty to learn more about essential teaching tools like Panopto, Zoom and UB Learns.
    • CEI Quick Tips. This video series from the Center for Educational Innovation offers critical insights from campus experts to improve educational delivery and outcomes. More than 30 thematically arranged videos, most clocking in under two minutes, are available.
    • Holiday spending reminder. Administrative Services asks staff to reimagine holiday plans with an eye toward safety and mindful spending.

Resources for Students

    • Connect with Navigate. Students can use Navigate to start or join study groups with other students from their classes—and a lot more. Download the app to connect easily with the full range of academic support resources at UB.
    • Writing feedback and support. The Center for Excellence in Writing is offering synchronous online appointments every day of the week. Consultants provide friendly, helpful conversation about writing assignments and projects at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
    • Course registration. Registration is underway for the spring semester. Students should check for their registration enrollment appointment. Winter session registration is also now open at the UBThisWinter website.
