Why is UB conducting surveillance testing?

Protecting the health and safety of the campus community is paramount to the university. The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily among people, and infection can present with mild or even no symptoms. The purpose of this testing program is to allow the university to monitor prevalence and make timely decisions on necessary intervention. Our surveillance testing program is for testing asymptomatic, non-close-contacts in an effort to make inferences about the amount of spread in the campus community and to identify asymptomatic cases for isolation.
