What is UB’s protocol if a student or employee reports symptoms of COVID-19?

Any student who receives a positive COVID-19 test result should isolate and report it via UB’s confidential reporting form.

Student Health Services has plans in place and is prepared to isolate students, monitor their symptoms and coordinate with local and state health authorities to ensure they receive proper care.

If students need to miss class due to illness, isolation or quarantine, they must notify their instructor by email as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after missing class. Residential students may request assistance from Campus Living to provide faculty notifications.

In the event an employee meets the criteria for possible infection they should:

  • Stay home. Please do not come to campus until your doctor confirms you do not have COVID-19 or you are tested negative for the virus.
  • Contact your healthcare provider. They will advise you on next steps. (Be sure to make an appointment before contacting them in-person.)
  • Notify your supervisor. Employees, if you will be absent, notify your supervisor and follow your unit's normal call-in procedures.
  • Notify Human Resources. Employees, if you are diagnosed with COVID-19, notify UB Human Resources as soon as possible.
