Assuming they participate in practices and competition this fall how can UB protect the campus if there’s an outbreak among student-athletes?

Student-athletes are required, along with all other members of the university community, to follow UB’s health and safety guidelines. In addition to the university’s guidelines, UB Athletics has put in place protocols for student-athletes, including a phased approach to training to reduce on-field and weight/conditioning room density.

Individuals associated with any sports teams are undergoing baseline testing prior to their interaction with any players/coaches, as well as follow-up testing on a regular basis to monitor any asymptomatic cases that arise.

UB Athletics is monitoring symptoms and conducting daily temperature checks prior to entering any building or outdoor workout. Indoor workouts are currently masked and close contact interactions are limited to roommates.

If there are positive cases among student-athletes, the student(s) who tested positive will be immediately placed in quarantine for 10 days from their test date. Any exposures (roommate and or small group) will be in precautionary quarantine for 14 days.
