UB Learns and Panopto

The Panopto Course Tool Application link provides students access to all the videos in your Panopto course folder and allows all course instructors to manage (ex: upload, delete, edit etc) video files. The folder updates automatically as files are added in Panopto.

1. Navigate to the course
2. From the Course Menu on the left-hand side of the screen, select the plus icon (top left-hand corner)
3. Select Tool Link
4. Enter a Name for the link
5. For Type, choose Panopto Course Tool Application and click the checkbox to enable Available to Users
6. Click Submit
7. Click the link you just created
8. Click Configure
9. Click Add Course to Panopto
   • You will see a message saying, "Successfully provisioned course..."
10. Click Return to Course

Note: We recommend that you have your students click on this Panopto tool link to ensure they are added to the course viewer group and have access to view the recordings.

If you want to time release the videos in your course, use the availability settings in Panopto to hide individual recordings or an entire folder.

1. Navigate to a content area (e.g., Course Documents or Assignments).
2. Highlight Build content and click Item
3. Enter a Name for item
4. From the Content (text) Editor click the plus button to add content and select Panopto Video
5. Select the video(s) and click Insert Videos
   1. Note: you can choose content from any folder you have access to on Panopto. Make sure the permissions on any folder you pull from give “can view” access to the current course viewer group {link to page explaining this}
6. Add any other content using the Content (text) Editor. You can add content before or after the inserted video
7. Click Submit.

1. Navigate to a content area (e.g., Course Documents or Assignments)
2. Highlight Build Content and select Panopto Video Embed
3. Choose the folder with the videos you want
4. Select the video and click Insert Video

Students enrolled in your course should automatically have access to the Panopto course folder that’s created when you configure the course for Panopto. To share videos from any other Panopto folder, such as a sub folder under your My Folder, update the Share section to include the current course viewer and creator groups.

Click on the folder or file you wish to share.

1. Click the share icon

2. Under Who has access, click the down arrow

3. Choose Specific People

4. In Invite people, begin typing the name of the course (e.g., IE507) or the UB Learns course ID (e.g., 2209_12345) and a list of viewer and creator groups will pop-up.

5. Choose the Viewer group for your current course

6. Select Can View in the drop-down box below

7. Click Save changes

Alternately, you can open your videos up to anyone at UB by choosing Anyone at the organization with the link in step 3, above.

Recordings with this access level are unlisted, meaning the session won't be discoverable by anyone browsing the site; they can only be accessed by having the direct link and a valid UBIT login. 

In Panopto, you have the ability to add quiz questions to a Panopto video at any point during the presentation. The results can be sent to the UB Learns Grade Center.   This is a two step process.

Step 1

1. Go to the Content Area (example: Assignments, Course Documents, etc.) in your UB Learns course

2. Click Assessments

3. Click Panopto Quiz tool

• Enter the Name of the quiz
  • This will be the name of the column in the Grade Center
• Select Yes to Enable Evaluation if you want the grades to be imported to the Grade Center
• Enter Points Possible
• Select any other options needed
• Click Submit

Step 2

4. Click on the name of the quiz item you just created in UB Learns

5. The LTI will open, select the Panopto video that has your quiz questions and click Insert

6. The video will open and begin to play.
To close the video and return to the course, click on the name of the Content Area near the top left-hand corner of the screen (a.k.a. the breadcrumbs)

1. Navigate to a content area (e.g., Assignments or Course Documents)
2. Select Assignment from the Assessments dropdown menu
3. Enter a name for the assignment in the Name and Color field
4. From the Content (text) Editor click the plus button to add content and selectPanopto Student Video Submission
5. UB Learns will automatically populate the Instructions field with step-by-step instructions for students
6. Enter the number of points in the Points Possible field
7. Set additional options, if necessary
8. Click Submit

Note: You can view and grade the video submissions in the Grade Center.

Note: All videos will be saved in a Panopto subfolder called Student Submissions,  located under the main Panopto folder of the course in Panopto.
