Donald B. Rosenthal

Donald B. Rosenthal, professor emeritus of political science, died Dec. 5 in his home in Charlotte, N.C. He was 77.

A native of Brooklyn, Rosenthal joined the UB faculty in 1964 as an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science. He was promoted to associate professor in 1968 and full professor in 1972. A one-time chair of the department, he taught and conducted research in the areas of American urban politics and intergovernmental relations, public policy, AIDS politics and policy, housing and community development programs, and public administration. He retired in 2000.

A member of the American Political Science Association, Rosenthal served as chair of the association’s Committee on the Status of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgendered in the Profession from 2000-01.

He also reviewed manuscripts accepted for publication by SUNY Press and Oxford University Press.

Rosenthal will be remembered for his excellent music collection, reading ability and love for life.
