If you are about to transition majors, know that you are not alone! Approximately 75 to 85 percent of undergraduate students change their major at least one time before graduation. If you recently received notification that you did not get accepted to your major or you have been dismissed from your current major or program, read on to learn about your next steps.

Next Steps

  • If you already have a new major or academic interest in mind, contact the appropriate advising office for further assistance and learn about applying to your new major.
  • If you're looking for something similar to your former major, read about alternative majors. The qualities that first attracted you to your major can be found in many other UB majors and minors.
  • Review the resources about changing your major.
  • Start your journey of exploring majors with the Career Design Center by reviewing six things to do before deciding on your major. For more help, book an appointment with a Career Design Consultant to think in new ways about choosing a major.

If you are still uncertain about your major as a continuing student, complete the Changing Your Major to Exploratory/Undecided form. Most requests will require an advising appointment with the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center (EPAC), especially if you have more than 45 credits completed. An EPAC advisor can help you explore related majors and other academic options that best meet your interests, skills and abilities.
