3/24/23, 9:31 AM Student Health Insurance Information 0:00 Hello. My name is Maria. I am here to share with you some important information about health insurance and the University at Buffalo's requirement. I work in 1 Capen along with our insurance specialists, Adama and Linda. 0:10 We are here Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will find our contact information on this 0:16 slide. Please visit our website to access detailed plan information, insurance forms, enrollment and waiver 0:25 information. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. 0:34 We know insurance can be very confusing and we are always here to help you. 0:38 The University of Buffalo requires our students to maintain health insurance coverage while attending UB. 0:45 Your coverage must have both emergency and non-emergency coverage in Erie County. 0:52 Once you reach the credit threshold, you will automatically be charged for health insurance. 1:00 If you are a part time student and at any time reach the credit threshold, you will be billed for insurance. 1:06 The only way to remove the charge is to submit an online waiver prior to the waiver deadline. 1:14 Domestic students enrolled in an approved 100% online only academic program are exempt from the 1:21 requirement. You may opt in to the insurance by completing an enrollment form which can be found on our Web site. 1:30 Currently, our insurance carrier for both domestic and international insurance plans is UnitedHealthcare 1:39 StudentResources. Domestic students are billed annually once in the fall, 1:49 and international students are billed separately once in the fall and again once in the spring semester. 1:53 If you currently have a private insurance plan, you must submit an online waiver each academic year. 2:02 Only approved waivers will result in the insurance charge being fully removed in order to waive out of the UB 2:10 student health insurance. Your plan must be US based, Affordable Care Act compliant and have both emergency and non-emergency 2:19 coverage in Erie County. International students cannot waive out with a community, essential, or travel plan. 2:30 Please visit our Website for waiver deadlines. 2:38 If you miss the waiver deadline, the insurance cannot be fully removed and a full refund will not be possible. 2:41 It is your responsibility to submit a timely online waiver once each academic year. 2:49 https://ub.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=da5449a1-bd4f-4645-b265-afcd012da998 3/24/23, 9:31 AM Student Health Insurance Information If you have an assistantship, you must contact human resources to proactively enroll in the student employee 2:57 insurance. You are not automatically enrolled, and it is not the UnitedHealthcare StudentResources plan. 3:06 It is your responsibility to enroll yourself in the correct insurance and waive out of the student health 3:13 insurance plan. Again, please remember this is a yearly process. 3:21 If you plan on keeping the insurance, please visit our website to proactively enroll and activate your card. 3:26 This will prevent any delays in processing your enrollment. 3:34 It is very important to carry a copy of your insurance card with you at all times. 3:39 You must present this at each visit to a provider or when purchasing a prescription at the pharmacy. 3:44 You will note that the card specifies your deductibles, co-pays and out-of-pocket maximum. 3:52 It is important to create an online portal to best manage your account. 3:59 Here is where you will receive the most up to date plan detail. 4:04 I hope you found this information helpful. If you have any questions, please call ,email, or visit us in 1 Capen 4:12 Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 4:20 We look forward to meeting you. 4:25 https://ub.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=da5449a1-bd4f-4645-b265-afcd012da998
