Use this checklist to make sure you can graduate on time, get your degree and diploma, and join your friends at commencement.

Applying for graduation pertains to your degree and diploma.

Registering for commencement lets you take part in the commencement ceremony.

Please note that these are separate steps.

Step 1. Apply for Graduation (Get Your Degree)

You cannot graduate without submitting this application.

When you apply for graduation, you are only applying to receive your degree and your diploma. You may still have to register separately to take part in a commencement ceremony.

Step 2. Register for Your Commencement Ceremony

If you want to participate in your commencement ceremony, please note that some ceremonies require you to register in advance, get tickets for your guests, and follow other guidelines.

This information, which varies by ceremony, is posted on each ceremony's info page. Access your ceremony's info page by visiting the Ceremonies page of this website and clicking on your ceremony listing.

Step 3. Make Sure You've Met All Graduation Requirements

  • Review your degree status on HUB Academic Advisement Report on MyUB. All requirements must be satisfied on this report in order for your degree to be conferred. If you believe there is an error, contact your advisor immediately.
  • Check with your advisor to make sure you're on track to graduate.
  • Make sure UB has official final transcripts on file from any other college or university you may have attended.
  • All final grades must be in by the conferral dates. Make sure Study Abroad, independent study and internship grades have been submitted.
  • Update your name and permanent address with the Registrar to ensure that your diploma is properly prepared and sent to the correct location.

Step 4. Settle Your Accounts

Be sure to pay your outstanding bills. Diplomas and transcripts will not be released if you have an outstanding financial obligation to the University. You can view any holds in your HUB Student Center in the To Do tile.

Step 5. Order Your Cap and Gown

Graduating students who are participating in their commencement ceremony wear academic apparel (cap/tam, gown, hood and tassel).
