A unique research partnership

between the University at Buffalo and CUBRC, a non-profit research center in Western New York

Equipped to work in the contract world

where basic contracted research findings produce real deliverables

World-renowned faculty

from a variety of departments, some of whom wrote the book on multisource data and information fusion

What is Multisource Information Fusion?

Multisource information fusion is a sophisticated estimation process that combines data received from multiple sources to produce specific and comprehensive estimates about an entity, activity or event.

Research Projects and Resources

Most universities aren't equipped to work in the contract world. But here at CMIF, our partnership with UB and CUBRC allows us to do basic contracted research and directly apply our findings to real deliverables.

World-renowned Faculty

Our faculty have written the first integrated text on multisource data and information fusion and have played leadership roles in a wide range of R&D programs spanning defense, security, and cyber applications, medical and transportation applications, and NASA-based attitude control systems for orbiting spacecraft.

Career Fields in Data and Information Fusion

  • Cyber Intelligence and Security
    3/6/19
The danger of security breaches and cyberattacks are an ongoing concern for organizations worldwide, and more and more are recognizing the necessity of strong cyber intelligence and security measures.
  • Human Factors Specialist
    3/6/19
Human factors are the ergonomics of industry and the study of how humans behave in various environments or in response to a product or service.
  • Information-Based Ontology
    3/6/19
Ontology is a way of simplifying complex data and organizing information. Information-based ontology combines that data or information from various sources to interpret it accurately and verify the mappings used to integrate each source.
  • Signals Intelligence and Information Operations Systems
    3/6/19
Signals Intelligence gathers information by intercepting communication between people and/or electronic devices.
  • Space Situational Awareness
    3/6/19
Space is becoming more contested, congested and competitive, driving new employment opportunities. A variety of initiatives are planned for space protection, such as alerting techniques, and maintaining a catalog of all space objects.
  • Systems Analysis and Optimization
    3/6/19
As technology advances, there is increased demand for complex systems to make human-like decisions. Systems analysis and optimization focuses on optimizing the design and operation of these systems so they make the best choices when humans can't intervene.
  • Medical Data Analytics
    3/6/19
Medical data analysis involves collecting, organizing and tracking medical records from various healthcare facilities. As more healthcare facilities move toward electronic health records, the need for better sorting and storing of medical data is on the rise.
  • Industrial Supply Chain Analysis
    3/6/19
Industrial supply chains have grown more complex as global energy, resource and product demands have increased. As a result, the need for efficient environmentally-friendly solutions are vital in order to meet the growing demand.
  • Data Mining
    3/6/19
Data mining is a subfield of computer science that looks for patterns and useful information in large sets of data using various methods and techniques. Data mining analysts then take this information and transform it into valuable insights and strategic action.
  • Biometrics Development
    3/6/19
Biometric technologies help us authenticate identities and ensure statistical uniqueness, which can help solve mysteries using forensics, ensure the security of buildings, transportation and sensitive information, or even cut down on things like voter fraud.
