| .Recreation Course fees were implemented fall 2015. Recreation provides approximately 80 academic courses each semester, as well as online courses during winter and summer sessions. Fiscally, more than 3,500 students participate in physical activity and wellness classes. UB has a long history of providing physical activity and wellness classes, dating back to the 1987.
Since 1987, Recreation Services has expanded course offerings in order to continue to challenge and accommodate UB¿s diverse student population. The continuation of physical activity and wellness classes through Recreation Services is dependent upon the student population, UB facility, instructional staff and supporting staff. Several courses including swimming based classes require supporting staff to manage and provide safety to Alumni Arena and Clark Hall pools. Lifeguards and TA¿s for swimming classes REC 119, 120, 121, 122, and 125 provide a safe environment for students to learn how to swim or to enhance current swimming level. REC 122 and REC 125, two certifying courses provide certifications through the American Red Cross (ARC) for lifeguarding and water safety instruction.
Recreation course fees for REC 119, 120, 121, 122 and 125 cover the costs of lifeguards for each course and the certifications for REC 122 and 125. The following courses are assigned course fees:
REC 119 Beginner Swim (7-week course)- Aquatics Course Lifeguard Fee $16.00
REC 120 Intermediate Swimming (7-week course) ¿ Aquatic Course Lifeguard Fee $16.00
REC 121 Advanced Beginner Swim (7-week course) ¿ Aquatic Course Lifeguard Fee $16.00
REC 122 Lifeguard Training (7-week course) ¿ Lifeguard Certification Fee (ARC) $55.50
REC 125 Water Safety Instruction (15-week course) ¿ Water Safety Instruction (ARC) $37.50 |

| Course Description |

|
| Lifeguard training teaches the student/candidate to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies in aquatic settings. Students also learn CPR and AED skills. Strong swimming skills are a must. There is a fee associated with this class.
