Europe has become a major area of investigation for cultural anthropologists since the 1980s. By taking this course, students will deepen their knowledge of anthropological approaches to the study of Europe and Europe?s global engagements. The course will cover various topics in the history of the anthropology of Europe, anthropological approaches to the study of the EU, and migration to and from Europe. This course will be of interest not only to students with research interests in Europe, but to others who want a deeper understanding of Europe and its historical and contemporary relationships with the rest of the world. This course will not be cross-listed with APY402 in Spring 2021.
  Course Description
Europe has become a major area of investigation for cultural anthropologists since the 1980s. What contributions can anthropologists make to understandings of contemporary Europe? How does the Anthropology of Europe contribute to wider developments in anthropological theory and method? By taking this course, students will deepen their knowledge of anthropological approaches to the study of people living in Europe, European societies and cultures (at local and national levels), and the European Union. This course is dual-listed with APY 402.
