The UB Department of Philosophy has performed better than ever before in the Philosophical Gourmet Report for the current academic year. The rankings of graduate programs, which are primarily based on the quality of faculty, represent reputational surveys distributed throughout the English-speaking world and Continental Europe.

UB Philosophy ranks in eight fields

The UB Department of Philosophy is now ranked in eight fields of research—epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of language, medieval philosophy,  philosophy of art, Chinese Philosophy, feminist philosophy and the philosophy of cognitive science.

This adds four areas to our noted specialties. In the previous 2012 PGR the department was ranked in philosophy of language, Chinese philosophy and philosophy of art, and feminist philosophy.

This year, 230 philosophers participated in either the overall or specialty rankings, often both. Evaluators included 15 Fellows of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and nearly 10 Fellows of either the British Academy or the Royal Society of Canada, among other learned societies, as well as leading senior and junior philosophers in every area of philosophy.
