The Department of Philosophy is pleased to announce the achievements of our grads - Berit Brogaard, Matthew LaVine, and Daniel Novotny.

Congratulations to Brit, Matt, and Daniel!

Berit (Brit) Brogaard, D.M.Sci., Ph.D  (philosophy of mind, psychology & language), Professor of Philosophy at the University of Missouri, St. Louis, has accepted a senior position in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Miami. At SUNY Buffalo, her doctoral program was in philosophy and linguistics (July 2000); Dissertation: Temporal Mereology­; Dissertation committee: Barry Smith (SUNY Buffalo), Achille Varzi (Columbia University, New York), Roberto Casati (Institut Jean Nicod, Paris), Ken Barber (SUNY Buffalo), Peter Hare (SUNY Buffalo).

Matthew LaVine's work is featured in The Blog DailyNous. On April 25, the blog highlighted a recent article co-authored by LaVine, entitled "The Relevance of  Analytic Philosophy to Personal, Public, and Democratic Life." The paper is published in Essays in Philosophy vol. 15.

Daniel Novotny, a recent graduate and Perry Dissertation Prize winner, won his university's Rector Prize for the Best Scholarly Work of 2013. His book "Ens Rationis from Suarez to Caramule: A Study in Scholasticism of the Baroque Era" was published by Fordham Press.
