UB Math Alum, Andrew Leach, is currently employed by Google as a Machine Learning Deployment Engineer. Leach recently contacted John Ringland about his work. Leach states, "Google has been great so far. I chose this position because I knew I'd be getting my hands dirty coding, and that it would also expose me to how companies are interested in applying machine learning. My experience has been that it is largely viewed as magic and even engineers often have a skewed perspective of what it can accomplish. A lot of the interesting machine learning research is happenening in industry, and combines some of the best of both worlds. I got some exposure at an invitation-only symposium for TensorFlow, Google's open source machine learning library."
