In a June 8th article published in the UB Reporter, Associate Professor of Communication Dr. Janet Yang discusses her research team's recently published study. Yang, along with Jonathon P. Schuldt (Cornell) and study leader Laura N. Rickard (University of Maine) examined how samples of individuals in the U.S. and Singapore would react to departure dates, the projection for when a region’s climate would begin to “depart” from its historic record and begin moving toward a new state of conditions. The results of the study, the authors suggest, could be used to encourage those political parties in the U.S. that currently oppose climate change policies. Ideally, Yang says, a message would be crafted to appeal to both liberal and conservative parties.
