Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Kelly Tenzek recently teamed with Abigail Unger, Director of Expressive Therapies at Hospice Buffalo, to provide a unique service learning experience for her End of Life Communication class. As part of a course objective to help younger generations become more comfortable communicating about death and dying, Tenzek and Unger led students through five service-learning tasks: researching the topic of expressive therapies, identifying established assessment tools, interviewing expressive therapy professionals, creating an assessment questionnaire, and preparing a final project presentation. Expressive Therapy professionals were also invited into the classroom. At the conclusion of the project, students demonstrated a new appreciation for End of Life Communication, and the services that Hospice Buffalo provides.
