In a March UBNow article, Professor of Communication Mark Frank gave his comments on whether it is possible to tell if a person is lying or not. Frank notes that  “there is no Pinocchio response,” meaning that there is no signal in the human body that can prove a lie just by its behavior. Someone can show signs that correlate with lies, but it does not make the lies real. But that doesn't mean the nonverbal doesn't play a role. Frank asserts that “the only way to ever know someone is lying for certain is with unimpeachable, corroborating evidence. And non-verbal can start that process."
