Fieldwork Placement: Arts Services Initiative of Western New York

Thesis Research: She is exploring the function of marketing in the aesthetic contract by critically examining the marketing for the 2019 revival of the musical Oklahoma!, at St. Ann's Warehouse nad the Broadway production

Taylor Burrows will be a graduate of the Arts Management Master’s Program in May, 2021. Throughout her time in the program, she has professionally performed in a local musical production, while balancing several internships and experiential learning opportunities that have given her insight into the development realm, as that is the path she intends on pursuing upon graduation. Her relevant experiences include being a Development Assistant at Alleyway Theatre, a Management Representative for the Theatre of Youth, and an Arts Development Administration Intern at the Arts Services Inc. With ASI, she was responsible for critical research into the operations of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations pre and post COVID-19. In 2019, she obtained a B.F.A. in Music Theatre from the University of Buffalo, and also has received a certificate in Musical Theater from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. She is excited to see where her path leads her.

Shitong Xie

Shitong Xie has a BA in Visual Communication design from the Shanghai Theatre Academy.  Work experience includes the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition Committee (program assistant), Mini Space-S680 of Shanghai Theatre Academy (Curator Assistant & Graphic designer), and as an independent graphic designer for the performing arts. 

Zixin (Vanessa) Jiang

Fieldwork Placement: Alleyway Theatre

Zixin (Vanessa) is an international student in the MA in Arts Management Program here at UB and she has a bachelor’s degree in marketing management. In the summer of 2018, she served as a Jury Team Coordinator at the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition. During the MA program, she has worked with Alleyway Theatre for two semesters, the first for her fieldwork and the second during Managing Arts Spaces.

Michael Bagne

Fieldwork Placement: UB Arts Collaboratory

A native of Rochester, NY, Michael Bagne is a graduate of Point Park University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in dance.  His post college credits include dancing for Martha Graham’s pre-professional dance company, Spectrum Dance Theater, Amy Marshall Dance Company, Jessica Gaynor Dance, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Holland America Cruise Lines, and America’s Got Talent semi-finalist, Lightwire Theater. He has performed as a guest artist for Nick Cave’s Soundsuits, Olympic Ballet Theatre and Seattle Men’s Chorus. Michael was a principle dancer for the August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble , a “Top 25 Dance Companies to Watch” in Dance Magazine for the 2012-2013 season. His television credit includes season one of truTV’s “Fake Off.”

Michael has had the privilege to work with and perform works by Sidra Bell, Donald Byrd, Camille A. Brown, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Kyle Abraham, David Parsons, Eva Stone, Tony Bordonaro, Omar Roman De Jesus, Annalee Traylor, Melanie Lewis, Jason McDole, Ahmad Simmons and Kiesha Lalama.  Michael is pursuing his Masters in Arts Management while teaching dance throughout the Buffalo and Rochester, NY regions. He plans to integrate his performance and dance experience to his studies in order to educate others on arts importance by empowering communities and inspiring action.

Thesis Research: Comparison of NGO and NFP systems in China and the US

Mengyi Jiang has a BA in Musicology from Shaoguan University in China and is a second-year graduate student in the Arts Management Program at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. While in the Program, Mengyi has focused her research on business competition awareness, strategic vision, and organizational talents that meet the needs of the modern culture and art industry market.

Thesis Research: Impact of late-1950s Ford Foundation grants on U.S. regional theatre movement

Robin Chaney received her Bachelor of Science in Management from Keene State College. During her time at UB, Robin conducted research for Arts Services Initiative of WNY, spotlighting how the organization could improve their connection with the Western New York arts organizations and how much of an impact the COVID pandemic had on sector organizations. She has also worked for the UB Center for the Arts as part of the front house management team.

Weixiao Zhang

Fieldwork Placement: Alleyway Theatre

Weixiao graduated from Beihang University with a bachelor's degree in Economics (Financial Engineering) and served as an oboe player in the Beihang Student Symphony Orchestra for four years. After graduation, he joined the China Philharmonic Orchestra as an intern in February 2018, participating in concert promotion, social media editing, artist reception, etc. From October 2018 to March 2019, he became an intern of Wanda Media Co., Ltd., and successively worked in the Publicity department and the Elite Development department, participating in the publicity  of film  projects, young directors and screenwriters training projects, etc.

Yizhuo Su

Yizhuo Su has a BA in English Literature from Qingdao University.  She has experience as a teaching assistant (College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program) and as a volunteer (Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and at her university’s Student Union in school of Foreign Languages).
